Innovative Collaboration Issues have been discussed in Minsk

Samvel Haroutiunian, Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia at the invitation of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) visited Minsk (Republic of Belarus) from 4 to 7 March 2019 to take part in the Workshop on “Promoting innovative, high-growth enterprises in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus”.

The main topics discussed during the workshop are the UNECE approaches to the fields of science and innovation for the Caucasus and other countries in Eastern Europe, preparations for the UNECE new report on “The general description of the sub-regional scientific-innovative policy”, as well as the Armenian-Belarusian Collaboration in the fields of science and technology and innovation.

During the workshop Samvel Haroutiunian, Chairman of the Science Committee MES RA, made an opening speech, then a separate report on “The scientific and research fields of Armenia”.

Within the scope of his visit to Minsk, Samvel Haroutiunian also made a visit to The State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus (SCST), where prof. Alexander Shumilin, The Chairman of the SCST and prof. Vladimir Agabekov, director of The Institute of Chemistry of New Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were awarded with medals by the Science Committee MES RA for the significant contribution to the development of the Armenian- Belarusian collaboration.

During the meetings held in the SCST the progress of the scientific programs realized within the scope of the Armenian-Belarusian collaboration was discussed. It was confirmed that the amount of funding would remain the same for the further calls.  

During the workshop the sides agreed upon the visit of UNECE representatives and experts to Armenia in order to begin the preparations for the UNECE new report on “The general description of the sub-regional scientific-innovative policy”, which is supposed to be published in summer, 2019.

According to the prior agreement, the trilateral meeting between Armenia, Russia and Belarus dedicated to the issues of broadening the trilateral collaboration in the fields of science and technology and innovation within the scope of UNECE and CIS will take place in Armenia in autumn, 2020.
